Board Member Orientation
Board Member Orientaton
You provide the specific information about your nonprofit to orient your board members.  But do they understand the fundamentals of operating as an effective governing body?  Send your board members to this fun and factual board orientation!

Legal & Fiduciary Duties:  Maybe your  board member has heard of the three legal duties of a board member – Duty of Care, Duty of Loyalty and Duty of Obedience – but what do each of these really look like in an organization?

10 Responsibilities of a Board Member:  After understanding the basic responsibilities, we will engage in exercises exploring real-life examples that boards have faced.  And you can bring your own examples!

Board & Staff Roles:  Everyone in the organization needs to clearly understand the role of the board and the role of staff.   As a board, do you know the public interest and is the organization serving it?  As staff, have you created a work plan that implements the strategies for the mission?

Presenter:  Russ Lowder, Idaho Nonprofit Center Training Director
