Action Alert

  • Nonprofit Impact of S1381 (Coronavirus Pause Act): The Idaho Nonprofit Center advocated against this bill and was pleased to see Governor Little veto it this week. This would have potentially punished private businesses and nonprofits that require employees to be vaccinated against the coronavirus (additional detail in section below).
  • What can you do? There is a possibility that Little’s veto will be overridden by the Legislature. Please reach out to your representative and share your opinion.

We had a fantastic visit around the state for our Regional Conferences. Hosting conferences in Coeur d'Alene, Sandpoint, Moscow, Boise, Twin Falls, and Idaho has put a few miles on our tires but has reenergized our commitment to our mission of strengthening nonprofits in every community of our state.

Bills We Are Taking a Stance On

Advocating Against:
  • H0740: Requires any Non-Governmental Organization that facilitates resettlement of refugees to report the name, age, sex, country of origin, and reason for resettlement to certain state and local agencies (this would be above and beyond what is already required for refugee resettlement vetting).
    • Nonprofit impact: Inclusion of additional personally identifying information above and beyond what is already required for the process poses grave privacy concerns for both refugees and nonprofits working with refugees.

Find your Idaho legislator’s contact info here and let them know how your organization is impacted.

Ern co-founded and is a board member of the national nonprofit Compass, which harnesses the skills of volunteer professionals to provide consulting support to other nonprofits, and was a consultant and project leader for Bridgespan.  Ern has served on several boards, and currently serves on the board of St. Luke’s Health Partners here in Boise.

Bills We Are Taking a Stance On

Advocating For:
  • H0450:  Unemployment Insurance Tax Rates: Would stabilize unemployment insurance tax rates for two years. This bill was signed into law by Governor Little on Feb. 18.
    • Nonprofit impact: Rate stabilization would reduce expenses for nonprofits, creating additional room in their budgets for their mission.
  • S1272: Liquor donations for charities.
    • Nonprofit impact: Would allow a distiller to legally donate product to charities for events, auctions, etc., in the same way beer and wine can be donated to charities for this purpose.
