Idaho Nonprofits Make our Local Communities Great"I am convinced that our sector has a big opportunity in front of us: It’s time to let the best-kept secret out of the bag and lift up our voice as a sector to make sure our sector is getting its due. Nonprofits are the foundation on which great communities are built." - Kevin Bailey, CEO, INC
Idaho Nonprofits Make our Local Communities Great – It’s Time to Let That Secret Out of the Bag9/30/2021 By Kevin Bailey, CEO, Idaho Nonprofit Center ![]() Even as someone who has spent my whole career in nonprofits in various capacities it had never really occurred to me just how much nonprofits touch every aspect of our lives as Idahoans. Previously, I had always thought of the nonprofit sector as the mortar that fills the space between the bricks in our society. However, I think that analogy has got it exactly backwards. Nonprofits are the bricks themselves that great communities are built on. In short, nonprofits are essential to our way of life in Idaho. Of course, you and our friends in organizations across the sector inherently know this. ![]() Thank you Tammy Tilzey, Director Foundant for Grantseekers, for your continued partnership and service to the nonprofit community! Q: How can you/your company support the nonprofit sector? "Our grantseeker product, GrantHub, is an online grant management software solution that helps you win more grants by finding and tracking grants, managing all your funders, tasks, applications, reports, and important grant documents. Plus, it sends you email reminders for your application deadlines and report due dates!" ![]() Thank you to Betsy Carver, Executive Director at River Discovery, for your continued partnership and service to the nonprofit community! A little about me: I grew up in Boise with a background in working and volunteering with local nonprofits. I am also a recent Boise State University graduate with a Master of Business and Administration. During my studies, I had the opportunity to work as a graduate assistant for the Boise State University Cycle Learning Center while also volunteering for the Boise Bicycle Project to help provide transportation alternatives to families in need. I am incredibly excited to start working with the Idaho Nonprofit Center. In my new role, I hope to develop and improve the programs that our organization offers. I recognize the value in the nonprofit sector and the integral role they play in supporting local communities. Because of this, my goal is to provide Idaho nonprofits with the tools and resources they need to thrive. My door is always open if you'd like to connect. Please, email me at [email protected]. Cheers! Ian Although we were all hoping that the pandemic would be behind us now, the Delta variant is spreading throughout Idaho. Because of this, nonprofits and other businesses are having to make additional decisions about workplace requirements.

![]() As I start my tenure as the next CEO of the Idaho Nonprofit Center, I wanted to share a story that I think sums up what nonprofits are all about. Passion My first nonprofit gig was right after I finished college. In school, I was fortunate enough to come into contact with a small band of passionate rabble rousers who were alumni of my alma mater. They were founding a nonprofit in Gulu, Uganda and it was truly a bare bones operation. All volunteer board members were dedicated to the cause, but had no real funding sources or leads. I came along a few months later with the desire to gain experience and work overseas. Upon meeting with the founder and finding we had a shared love for the resilient people in Uganda, he said, “You’re hired! But… you’ll need to raise money for your own salary because we don’t have a way to pay you yet.” Naively, I said, “Count me in!” ![]() Thank you to Hailey Huston, Marketing and Communications Specialist at Idaho Manufacturing Alliance and Forging Futures Idaho, for your continued partnership and service to the nonprofit community! ![]() IMA Mission: A membership organization focused on knowledge sharing, collaboration and advocacy to influence a manufacturing environment that creates benefits for the industry and the community. If you are comfortable, you can contact Senator Crapo to communicate your opinion of the bipartisan Legacy IRA Act.
Background: In 2015, Congress passed the PATH Act, which included the IRA Charitable Rollover provision allowing individuals to make direct tax-free charitable gifts up to $100,000 annually from their IRA starting at age 70 ½. Since its enactment, the IRA Charitable Rollover has generated millions of dollars in new or increased contributions to local and national charities. The Legacy IRA Act builds on that success to expand the existing IRA Charitable Rollover, allowing seniors starting at age 65 to make tax-free IRA rollovers to charities through life-income plans (charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust). It is estimated that seniors have up to $5 trillion in IRA assets. This offers a way for middle-income donors to combine charitable gifts with retirement income. It helps existing charities, as seniors typically make up more than half of their donors. |
