Idaho Launch, the 2023 grant program that was created to give Idaho high school seniors up to $8,000 towards training for in-demand careers in Idaho, now has a legislative update to the definition of ‘in-demand.’ To calculate what careers qualify, the legislation introduces these determining factors:
S1390 has passed the Senate but some uncertainty remains as the bill is being held up in the House Ways and Means committee. Appropriation Bills to Keep an Eye on Why this Matters: Idaho state agencies frequently partner with nonprofits to maximize impact on community needs. Through grants and contracts with nonprofit service providers, the State of Idaho better supports its citizens. JFAC has finally set a revenue projection, and with that comes more appropriation bills to be voted on. One of note is the Health and Welfare’s budget, which tends to partner with Idaho nonprofits, but it will likely be one of the last to be set. Hospital Bill Could be Back Why this Matters: Tax exempt property relates to Idaho nonprofits and impacts Idaho residents INC Position: Advocating Against Although H0658 seems to be dead for the year, we’ve heard that an amended version could be introduced in the next few days. This type of legislation would still encourage health care facilities to consolidate into centralized facilities which would further impact the lack of access to care experienced in rural areas of Idaho. In addition, residents of Idaho could also feel the financial impact of hospitals losing tax exempt benefits on their property as the cost would have to shift to consumers, disproportionately affecting low-middle income Idahoans.
