New Gun Bill affects how nonprofits can regulate firearms & other important bills

Why this matters: This bill affects nonprofits that use public space (e.g. parks) and their ability to regulate firearms during programs held there.

This bill removes previous restrictions on carrying concealed weapons on public property. Nonprofits that rent or lease public property may no longer stop concealed firearms during the time of the land use. Organizations that host concerts, for example, often have contracts with performers that prohibit weapons. 

​Because of insurance and safety concerns, this bill could jeopardize well-loved community events if the option to limit firearms is taken away.​

Medicaid coverage shifts to national level

Why this matters: Budget cuts could lead to a significant number of Idahoans losing Medicaid coverage, resulting in greater demand for services from nonprofits already operating with limited resources, creating more pressure on programs supporting vulnerable communities.

Now that the Idaho bill impacting Medicaid was passed yesterday, advocacy attention shifts to the national stage.

The nonprofit Idaho Voices for Children will present Senator Crapo with letter signed by concerned constituents.

‘Sexual Exhibitions/Anti-Drag Bill’ (H230)
​We are monitoring the progression of this bill as it would impact programing of nonprofit theaters and arts organizations. There will most likely be a replacement bill addressing the larger concerns of the performance art community.

Hospital Property Tax Bill (H130)
We have previously reported on the dangers this would have. This bill not only threatens the financial viability of nonprofit hospitals, but it also jeopardizes the essential services they provide to Idahoans, particularly in rural areas.

However good news may be in sight! Right now, H130 is not expected to move through the Senate. Nonprofit property tax exemptions seem to be safe for 2025.
