Founded in 2001
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead
The First Seven Years
The Idaho Nonprofit Development Center (INDC) was founded in 2001 by a group of thoughtful, committed Idahoans. The idea was to help build the capacity of Idaho’s nonprofit organizations and to educate the public on the nonprofit sector.
The original mission of the INDC was: “To rally generous, caring citizens, nonprofits, and funders to build strong communities in Idaho.” However, the original articles of incorporation listed the purpose of the INDC: “To provide education, training, and support services for the nonprofit sector.”
Initially, when our founders began talking about forming, there was (and still is today) a clear recognition that community-based organizations are essential to providing the health, educational, recreational, and cultural services central to our way of life. They are the cornerstone of our civic society.

Renaming and Expanding
Since 2001 many important changes have taken place within the organization itself. Most notably was our name in 2008 when the word “development” was dropped from our organizational title. At the same time, we became a membership organization and joined the National Council for Nonprofits, which allowed us to assume a critical role as the voice of the nonprofit sector on matters of policy and advocacy.
Over the past years many staff members have come and gone, and our staffing structure has grown to support four full time and one part time staff at our home office in Boise. Our programs and services have expanded and we have worked tirelessly to truly fulfill our responsibility as a statewide nonprofit association.
What started out as an idea has grown into a vital organization serving the needs of over 6,500 nonprofits in the state of Idaho. It is our great pleasure to be of service to those organizations on the front line of our communities’ greatest needs every day.

The Future
Recently we began the process of developing a three-year strategic plan which indicated a need for a mission revision. The mission of our organization has not changed, but merely how we express what we do for you: Educate, advocate, and collaborate in support of stronger nonprofits.
While there have been a lot of adjustments, some big and some small, the one thing that has never faltered is the purpose of our organization as clearly outlined in those original articles of incorporation.
One thing that will never change: we are always here for you.
