The Lewiston Civic Theatre has been bringing the arts to the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley since 1964. They hold a variety of different programs from workshops and classes, to annual shows and events. Acting Out, a youth company that gives children a safe environment to “experience and learn the theatrical arts” is also a program they offer.

“It is so great to see more children developing life skills through their involvement in the performing arts,” says Executive Director, Nancy McIntosh.

“It is so great to see more children developing life skills through their involvement in the performing arts,” says Executive Director, Nancy McIntosh.

McIntosh has seen many changes occur over the last couple of years with their physical theatre suffering damage, but continues to thrive while performing in many different spaces.

“We have put on productions in several of the high school auditoriums in our area, as well as the music department and the Silverthorne Theatre on the Lewis-Clark State College campus,” McIntosh states.

The Lewiston Civic Theatre hopes to complete their “community outreach programs and to increase children's theatre classes.” They have recently doubled the number of students in their acting classes and McIntosh says, “[we] are looking to add more workshops and classes for children in our summer program.”

They measure success on the number of tickets sold for each production, as well as the increased number of students participating in shows and acting classes. Introducing youth to the performing arts helps build their self-esteem, social skills, and a sense of community.

“We are currently working on our largest fundraiser of the year, the Fine Arts Gala. We are almost sold out and are thrilled. My hope is to continue bringing quality live theatre entertainment to the citizens of the Lewis-Clark Valley and surrounding communities, and to bring quality performing arts education to kids in our community,” McIntosh says.
