Idaho Gives 2021 has come and gone and our team is amazed, yet again, at Idaho’s generosity! To be honest, we really didn’t know what to expect with the campaign this year. After 2020’s outstanding outcome, we were hopeful, but cautious. The state is beginning to open up and we are inching closer to something resembling normalcy, however nonprofits across Idaho are still in a precarious situation. Many continue to lose funding and resources, even as their services remain crucial to all of us. Our team was acutely aware of this situation and knew that Idaho Gives was as important as it’s ever been. This was the first time we’ve run the Idaho Gives campaign for a week. In 2020 we pushed it from one day to two weeks to address the sudden increased need due to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. This successful shift made us all realize that there was room to reimagine what Idaho Gives might look like. To recap, Idaho Gives raised $3,872,128 for 646 organizations from 16,083 donors. Not only did we have a record number of organizations register for Idaho Gives, but we raised almost as much in one week this year as we raised in two weeks last year! Thank you to everyone who gave back to Idaho! This year has been bittersweet for me as it was my final Idaho Gives. I’m excited to move on to my next adventure, but I will miss my team at the Idaho Nonprofit Center and everyone involved in the Idaho Gives campaign tremendously. Being involved with Idaho Gives and the Idaho Nonprofit Center has helped me to grow and change in ways I hadn’t imagined when I signed on. Thank you to everyone who has been involved! Say Thanks!Whether you thank donors in an email. letter, or phone call, saying thank you is impactful and increases donor retention. Research shows that the average nonprofit loses 81% of donors after their first gift and the probability that a donor will make five consecutive gifts is only 10-15%. Increase those odds with a personal touch. The time spent saying thanks will be well worth it! Need some ideas of creative ways to say thank you?
Follow UpAlso, don't forget to add your new contacts to your donor database to reach out in the future. Keep your Idaho Gives momentum with your other fundraisers! Learn more about donor relationships and retention strategy here“Idaho Gives is important to the Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen for several reasons”, says past organizer, Kaaren Parsons. “Obviously the financial benefit is huge, but it’s more than that. Idaho Gives provides awareness about the soup kitchen, and people who may not even realize Idaho Falls had a soup kitchen were able to learn about our organization.”
The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint is a nonprofit music and performing arts school. It currently serves over 250 students of all ages and abilities from high achieving students in their honors program to leisure students. This will be their third year participating in Idaho Gives.
The Wassmuth Center for Human Rights is a local nonprofit that promotes respect for human dignity and diversity by providing educational programs for teachers and students, engaging in community leadership and supporting the advocacy for human rights. The organization has participated in Idaho Gives for the last couple of years. Dan Prinzing, Executive Director said that “as a small nonprofit with a specific mission, it helps us to be seen in a broader sense with the rest of the nonprofits.”
Selkirk Outdoor Leadership & Education (SOLE), Inc. is a nonprofit dedicated to designing and facilitating intentional, experiential, and outdoor education programming for kids K - 12. SOLE was the highest earning nonprofit in Bonner County for Idaho Gives 2017, raising $2,260. With those funds, SOLE was able to immerse ninety Idaho youth in a full-day transformational outdoor education program. We caught up with Dennison Webb, Founder and Executive Director of SOLE, to talk about their Idaho Gives experience.
Hands of Hope is a nonprofit dedicated to the redistribution of donated medical equipment and supplies to individuals and partnering organizations, domestically and internationally. Hands of Hope has been participating in Idaho Gives since its inception. “People come year after year and look forward to the day. Making it an annual event causes people to expect the request for donations and plan for it,” says Executive Director, Debbie Wheeler. “We had a BBQ at our facility to attract people and then gave them tours. There was no cost for the lunch, but donations were accepted. It was well attended and we reached our goal to send a shipment of supplies to Moldova.” A great way to increase your average number of donations and expand the reach of your organization's network is to participate in Peer to Peer (P2P) fundraising. A P2P fundraiser is when a supporter rallies around your cause to fundraise on your behalf.
Your supporters can create their own fundraising page as a spin-off of (and linked to) your main Idaho Gives profile. They then can share the page they made with their network to expand the reach of your organization and bring in new donors. We are so excited that GiveGab (the Idaho Gives giving platform) has made it easy for your supporters to participate in P2P fundraising by providing an array of materials and tools that help your supporters carry out a campaign. Below is everything you and your supporters need to know to have a successful Idaho Gives: |
