Operating in Moscow, Backyard Harvest has evolved from a one-woman operation to a multi-faceted organization. They now “help mobilize volunteers to glean (harvest) extra fruits and vegetables from private residences on the Palouse and in the Lewis-Clark Valley” to distribute to those with food instability. Executive Director, Misty Amarena says collaboration is a large part of their services. “We currently collaborate with a variety of nonprofits and social service agencies in our area. We share events and opportunities among each group to ensure community members with needs are aware of important opportunities to address those needs. “We co-sponsor or co-host events such as working with our local land trust to host gleanings in public spaces that community members can pick on their own, too. Many of the food banks/pantries we work with are non-profits or associated with social service agencies and we often distribute fruit to nonprofit after school/summer programs such as the YMCA of the Palouse.” Every June, the Idaho Nonprofit Center completes an annual membership survey to help make changes to our programs and services in the interest of serving our members and the nonprofit sector - to the very best of our ability. The 2017 survey results highlighted that we have made significant strides in providing value to your membership investment in us. It also indicated that, as a whole, our nonprofits value our advocacy efforts. We understand that you also face challenges in accessing your membership benefits, whether it’s knowing what they are, how to access them, or lack of training in your area. We hear you and are working to bridge the gap distance creates. By forming strategic partnerships and continuing to support our now biannual membership orientation (past orientations can be viewed anytime) we hope to lessen these obstacles. We also ask, every year, what topics are important to you for professional development and training. That information is used to choose conference breakout sessions, trainings, and Regional Forum topics. On behalf of our Board of Directors and staff, we want to say thank you to all who completed the survey. Your feedback helps drive critical decisions we make every day on how to serve Idaho's nonprofit sector. A few themes emerged when we compared your responses from 2016 to 2017: |
