Census Ends TODAY

Self-response and field data collection operations for the 2020 Census will conclude on Thursday, October 15, 2020.

Specifically:

• Internet self-response will be available across the nation through October 15, 2020 until 11:59 pm Hawaii Standard Time (HST), (4:00 am MT / 3:00 am PT on October 16, 2020).
• Paper responses must be postmarked by October 15, 2020.
• Nonresponse Followup census takers will continue resolving nonresponding addresses through the end of the day on October 15, 2020.

What we can all do right now:

• Ramp up your efforts to encourage all Idahoans to complete the census before it ends prematurely. The Idaho Nonprofit Center has a suite of materials for use
• Contact Senator Mike Crapo and Senator Jim Risch and encourage them to co-sponsor and to pass bi-partisan Senate Bill S. 4571 (six Republican Senators have already supported the bill).
  
  

The Supreme Court on Tuesday temporarily allowed the Presidential administration to end its 2020 census count earlier than the renewed October 31 deadline. The concern is that this could result in undercounting populations in hard to reach communities, those without internet access, as well as racial and ethnic minorities.

Of even greater concern is inaccurate/incomplete counts impact federal fund distributions for the next ten years. Many nonprofits receive federal funds in order to fulfill their missions in our communities in support of vulnerable populations. A complete and accurate count will help ensure the communities they serve are not underfunded.
