Over the past seven years, HAPI Trails has extended their services to “a community resource for not only helping horses, but also helping the community through education, outreach, law enforcement support, and mental health care with horses.” Partnering with the Teton Valley Mental Health Coalition, HAPI Trails promotes and supports mental health through their Equine Therapy Program. “[We] utilize horses to help humans who suffer from PTSD, depression, and various other mental issues.” Julie Martin, Co-founder and Executive Director, says her position has others looking to her for guidance. “It has humbled me and encouraged me to do the best that I can for the horses in our care and the board members who believe and trust me.”
Martin also states: “Our success is based on the amount of money we can raise which allows us to increase the number of horses we can help. It is not any different than when we began, except that both those numbers have continued to rise over the years. We can not take more horses than our space and finances allow.” Big things are coming to the Victor, Idaho organization. With their new land and Capital Campaign, HAPI Trails will “build a barn, hay shed, and get more educational programs going.” We cannot wait to see horses and humans continue to find support at HAPI Trails.
