Q: What is one highlight of the past year?

Hope took a grant writing class from Spark the Fire Grantwriting Classes in 2018. This week, she emailed to say that in the last year, her department had received almost $274,000 in grants. Prior to taking the course, her department did not have any grant-funded projects. She wrote, “It was a pleasant surprise to quantify how many grants proposals have paid off, especially since that is close to 45% of our department’s annual budget!” Students like Hope succeed because during the grant writing course, they write a complete grant proposal with the encouragement and feedback of the instructor. That gives them to confidence and knowledge to support the work they love.
